Description
Iris hollandica Blue Magic is a reliable and vibrant cultivar prized for its deep violet-blue standards and rich purple falls accentuated by a bold yellow signal. With a strong upright habit and reaching heights of 50–60cm, it’s a dependable performer that adds architectural strength and intense colour to spring displays. Flowering in May or early June, it bridges the seasonal gap between spring bulbs and summer perennials, making it a key element in layered landscape plans across Ireland.
This cultivar excels in public borders, perennial meadows, civic planters, and private gardens, where its bold hue can be repeated for rhythm and visual cohesion. It works well interplanted with Allium aflatunense, or Crocosmia George Davison. It also makes an excellent foil for silver-leaved shrubs or grasses.
Blue Magic thrives in full sun with well-drained soil, making it ideal for coastal projects, urban schemes, or mixed bulb installations. While not a heavy pollinator plant, its flowers may still attract the occasional early bee or hoverfly, especially when combined with nectar-rich spring bulbs nearby.
