Iris germanica White Knight I

Iris germanica White Knight I

25 Iris germanica ‘White Knight’ in a package.

Description

The clump forming Iris germanica ‘White Knight’ has ruffled white flowers with white falls and yellow beards that bloom from May to June. The upright petals have a different colour than the drooping petals creating an eye-catching contrast. These Irises are called ‘Bearded Iris’ because the lower petals droop downwards. ‘White Knight’ is a hardy perennial that grows well in gardens, pots, and in flower arrangements. The plant has thick rhizomes. Tthat should be planted shallowly and almost horizontally as soon as possible after receipt. Improve heavy garden soil by mixing in sharp sand. Place the thick rhizomes of the bearded Irises about 1 cm below ground level on the knoll. Water immediately after planting. Plant approximately 25-30 cm. apart. These Irises grow and flower well in full sun or partial shade in well-drained, fairly dry soil. The sword-shaped, grey-green leaves die off at the end of summer, but new leaves appear in the fall. In winter, cover the plants with a layer of fallen leaves or some branches. Cut off all the leaves in the spring and new shoots will appear shortly thereafter.
