Description
Hyacinth City of Haarlem is a creamy-yellow heirloom variety prized for its fragrance and subtle brightness. Flowering in March and April, its upright spikes produce masses of lemon-scented florets. The gentle yellow tones blend harmoniously with spring whites, soft blues, and pale purples, making it a flexible colour anchor in mixed bulb schemes.
Use it in formal parterre beds, underplantings in orchard lawns, public floral displays, or sensory gardens where scent is a key feature. It pairs especially well with Muscari armeniacum, Scilla siberica, and Narcissus Tête-à-Tête.
While hyacinths aren’t primary nectar sources, they can offer limited support for early pollinators on warm days. For Irish gardens, plant in fertile, well-drained soils with plenty of sun for best results.
