Description
Fritillaria persica, also known as Persian Lily, produces tall flower spikes lined with nodding, bell-shaped flowers in rich shades of deep purple to near-black. Flowering in mid to late spring, it reaches 80–100 cm and makes a commanding vertical accent in naturalistic, prairie-style, or contemporary planting schemes.
In Irish gardens, it performs best in full sun with free-draining soil. The blooms are particularly attractive to early bees, providing vital nectar at a time of scarce forage. Combine with airy grasses or spring bulbs like Camassia leichtlinii Caerulea, Allium Early Emperor, Tulip Queen of Night or Tulip Ronaldo for bold tonal harmony and seasonal depth.
