Description
Fritillaria meleagris Alba is the graceful white-flowering form of the iconic Snakeshead Fritillary, beloved for its nodding, bell-shaped blooms. Flowering in April, this variety brings a subtle charm to damp meadows, stream margins, or semi-shaded woodland edges.
Perfectly adapted to Irish soil and climate, it thrives in heavier ground where many other bulbs struggle. Alba naturalises freely and complements Narcissus poeticus recurvus, Camassia quamash, and Leucojum aestivum in low-input, pollinator-friendly schemes. The unmarked white flowers stand out beautifully among grasses and mossy lawn areas, offering a soft counterpoint to the chequered purple of the standard variety.
Plant in groups of 15 or more for best visual effect, and let them seed freely in undisturbed ground.
