Description
Dahlia Wizard of Oz is valued for neat growth and a high yield of perfectly formed pompon flowers. The blooms are small, round and uniform in soft pink shades, giving a polished, controlled look that suits home gardens. Pompon types keep their shape well and look presentable in changeable weather, which makes them reliable for Irish borders. Wizard of Oz works well in edging, low beds, planters and container displays where consistent height and tidy presentation are important. It is an excellent cutting flower, producing plenty of stems for posies and mixed bouquets. Regular deadheading keeps the plant flowering for weeks and encourages continuous bud production. Soft pink acts as a gentle linking colour across a site, and pairs easily with whites, silvers, grasses and deeper purples. This pompon bloomis inaccessible to pollinators. If wildlife value is important, plant it near nectar rich plants such as echinacea, liatris, anemone, or lilium. Plant after frost risk in full sun and free draining soil improved with compost. Water steadily, feed from bud stage onwards, deadhead regularly, and lift tubers after the first frosts for frost free storage.
