Description
Dahlia Vancouver is a true dinnerplate dahlia grown for oversized flowers and a clear two tone finish. The petals sit in rich pink violet to fuchsia purple shades, then finish with crisp white tips, giving a high contrast look that reads well at distance and still holds detail up close. In private Irish gardens, Vancouver works best as a focal plant in a mixed border, repeated in small groups to create a readable block, or grown in large patio containers where the bloom size can be appreciated at close range. It makes an excellent cut flower for big vases and bold bouquets. Because dinnerplate blooms are heavy, staking is important, especially in exposed Irish sites, and consistent watering and feeding keep the plant productive. Plant after frost risk has passed, in full sun and fertile, free draining soil improved with compost. Keep moisture steady through summer, stake early, feed from bud stage onwards and deadhead regularly for continuous flowering. Lift and store tubers frost free after the first frosts for reliable replanting.
