Description
Dahlia Tropical is a strong summer line for retail because it promises exactly what customers want: colour, energy and weeks of flowering when the garden needs it most. It suits mixed planting—pair with grasses, salvias, verbena or hardy geraniums for a long-season display.
Plant after the danger of frost has passed, in full sun. Improve soil with compost for better growth and drought resilience. Dahlias prefer consistent moisture but hate sitting wet, so drainage matters—especially in heavier Irish soils.
Encourage customers to pinch early growth for a fuller plant, use light staking in exposed positions, and deadhead often. Feeding from bud stage keeps performance high through late summer.
Overwintering is a key success factor: lifting and storing tubers is recommended where winter wet and cold could cause losses.
