Description
Dahlia Procyon is a striking decorative dahlia selected for vivid, two tone colour that looksolike a lit flame in the border. The blooms open with a brilliant yellow centre and base, then transition outward to a glowing edge of fiery orange, heavily finished with red orange tipping on the outer petals. The flower form is large and fully double, giving a dense, high impact head that holds its presence from mid summer into autumn.
Irish horticulturists use this colour pattern to create strong focal points in mixed borders, civic beds and entrance planting where the display needs to be obvious at distance and still look intentional in mixed summer weather. In private gardens it is ideal near patios and front borders, and it performs very well in large containers where watering and feeding can be kept steady. For cutting, the bold two tone blooms make standout stems for bright summer arrangements, and regular cutting or deadheading encourages continuous bud production. Plant after frost risk has passed, in full sun and fertile, free draining soil improved with compost. Water to establish, then keep moisture steady through summer, especially in pots. Pinch early growth tips for branching if desired, stake in exposed sites, feed from bud stage onwards, and deadhead regularly to keep the plant flowering. Lift and store tubers frost free after the first frosts for reliable replanting in Ireland.
