Description
Dahlia Maldini is a high impact decorative dahlia, grown for large, neatly formed blooms in deep magenta and fuchsia tones that can read as a rich pinkish red depending on light and stage. This colour is widely used by Irish horticulturists where strong late season colour is needed to carry borders through August and September, especially in estate planting, hotel planters and high visibility beds where brightness must hold at distance.
In private gardens, Maldini works best as a feature plant near patios or in front borders, and it performs very well in large containers where moisture and feeding can be kept consistent. The decorative flower form also makes it useful for cutting, giving bold stems for summer bouquets and late season arrangements. Plant in small groups for a strong colour block, or repeat through a border to create rhythm and continuity. It pairs well with ornamental grasses, salvias, echinacea, rudbeckia and dark leaved plants for contrast. Plant after frost risk has passed, in full sun and fertile, free draining soil improved with compost. Water to establish and keep moisture steady through summer, especially in pots. Pinch early growth tips for branching if desired, stake in exposed sites, deadhead regularly to maintain bud production and feed from bud stage onwards. Lift and store tubers frost free after the first frosts for reliable replanting in Ireland.
