Description
Dahlia Honey Dew is a high-impact summer bulb (tuber) line that performs well in Irish gardens once given warmth, sun and decent drainage. It’s a strong choice for garden centres because dahlias deliver visible results fast and keep flowering when many spring bulbs are long finished.
Plant after frosts, in full sun, into fertile, free-draining soil. Improve heavier ground with compost and grit; dahlias dislike sitting wet. Water well at planting, then water as needed during dry spells—consistent moisture gives better flower production.
For best display, advise customers to deadhead regularly and to feed once buds appear. A simple support stake prevents wind rock and snapped stems, particularly on exposed sites. Dahlias are also excellent for cut-and-come-again picking: the more you cut, the more they respond.
Overwintering: lift after the first frosts, dry off, and store frost-free. This is a good add-on sale (labels, storage advice, tuber crates, compost and feed).
