Description
Dahlia Color Spectacle is a high impact semi cactus dahlia grown for both colour and form. The blooms sit in coral orange through to fiery orange tones, with many petals finished in fine white tips that add definition and make the flower stand out even in mixed Irish summer weather. The semi cactus form brings long, slightly spiky petals that add movement and texture, giving a sharper, more dynamic look than a standard decorative dahlia. Irish horticulturists use this type of bright orange in high visibility beds, entrance planting and late season displays where warm colour needs to carry through August and September. In private gardens it works best as a feature plant in the border, repeated in small groups for a strong colour block, or grown in a large patio container where the flower detail can be appreciated up close. It also cuts well, producing bold stems for bright summer arrangements, and regular cutting or deadheading encourages repeat flowering into autumn. Pair it with purples and deep blues for strong contrast, or keep the scheme warm with yellows, bronzes and red toned companions. Ornamental grasses and silver foliage help tidy the base and let the semi cactus blooms do the work. Plant after frost risk has passed, in full sun and fertile, free draining soil improved with compost. Keep moisture steady through summer, stake if exposed, feed from bud stage onwards and deadhead regularly to maintain continuous buds. Lift and store tubers frost free after the first frosts for reliable replanting in Ireland.
