Description
The large-flowered, dinner plate Dahlia Bell of Barmera blooms with huge flowers of peachy-orange and coral pink wavy petals, from July until the first frost. Horticulturists often use this kind of colour in estate borders and public facing planting where pink needs to be bold. It performs best as a feature plant or planted in small groups to create a block of colour. In large patio containers it gives a long display close to seating areas, and it suits cutting gardens, producing repeat stems when regularly picked or deadheaded. Pair it with whites, soft purples, silver foliage and ornamental grasses to keep the border balanced and avoid a heavy pink mass.
Plant after frost risk in full sun and fertile, free draining soil improved with compost. Keep moisture steady, pinch early tips for branching if desired, stake if exposed, feed from bud stage onwards and deadhead regularly. Lift and store tubers frost free after the first frosts.
