Description
Dahlia Aphrodite is a showy, mid-to-late season dahlia that earns its keep in mixed borders and cutting patches. Dahlias are one of the best-value summer lines you can offer—long flowering, high impact, and easy for customers to succeed with once they follow the basics.
Plant the tuber after the risk of frost has passed, in a sunny spot with free-draining soil enriched with compost. Set the tuber shallowly with the growing point just below the surface, water in, then keep evenly moist while growth establishes (avoid waterlogging). Pinching the first shoot tips encourages bushier plants and more stems for flowers. Taller growth benefits from a simple cane or ring support, especially in exposed Irish sites.
Deadhead regularly to keep blooms coming, and feed every 10–14 days once buds form (a potash-leaning feed is ideal). In autumn, once frost blackens the tops, lift and store tubers cool and dry, or mulch heavily in mild coastal areas where customers are willing to chance it.
Retail note: a strong “repeat flowerer / great for cutting” message helps conversion, and the prepack format keeps the bench tidy and shoppable.
