Description
Crocus tommasinianus Whitewell Purple offers refined beauty in early spring, with slender goblet-shaped flowers in luminous violet-purple that catch low sunlight beautifully. Flowering in February, it excels in Irish conditions where low winter light and mild moisture levels prevail.
This cultivar is excellent for naturalising beneath trees, around orchard edges, or through rough grassland. Its colour provides excellent contrast to white-flowered Galanthus and complements soft blue Scilla siberica or golden Crocus Cream Beauty. Reliable and low-maintenance, it returns year after year and spreads by seed where allowed to establish undisturbed.
