Description
Canna Cleopatra Yellow is all about presence. Cannas deliver a true tropical look with big leaves, upright growth and bright flowers that keep going through summer into early autumn. This variety is ideal for customers who want instant drama in sunny borders, sheltered courtyards, and large containers near seating areas where the colour and foliage can be appreciated up close.
The key appeal is the combination of lush foliage and hot coloured blooms. Even before flowering, cannas add structure with broad leaves that give a layered, architectural feel. Once in flower, they bring a continuous sequence of blooms on tall stems, especially when spent flowers are removed. In planting design, they pair well with bananas, dahlias, salvias, crocosmia, rudbeckia, ornamental grasses and large leaf perennials for a full late summer display.
Plant rhizomes after frost risk has passed, in full sun and rich moisture retentive soil that still drains. Cannas like warmth and feeding, so compost improvement and regular liquid feed in summer makes a visible difference. Water well during growth, particularly in containers. In autumn, lift rhizomes after the first frost or before cold wet weather sets in, dry lightly and store frost free. In milder coastal areas some customers may leave them in with heavy mulching, but lifting is the reliable advice for Ireland.
