Description
Allium neapolitanum, commonly known as Naples Garlic or Daffodil Garlic, is a robust and adaptable bulb ideal for enhancing pollinator-friendly planting schemes. It produces clusters of pure white, star-shaped flowers with a fresh, clean appearance, held aloft on upright stems around 25–35 cm tall. Flowering in mid- to late spring, it offers a useful bridge between early bulbs and summer perennials.
Favoured by landscapers and horticultural professionals for its versatility, Allium neapolitanum naturalises well in light shade or full sun and performs reliably in well-drained soils. It is particularly valuable in mixed borders, naturalised grassland settings, Mediterranean-style gardens, and low-maintenance municipal planting schemes. The long-lasting blooms are excellent for cutting and also attract bees and early pollinators.
This allium is more graceful and delicate than many of its taller, globe-headed cousins, yet it offers similar architectural value when mass planted. Its ability to spread slowly over time makes it an excellent investment for sustainable, low-input landscapes.
