Description
Triteleia hyacinthina is valued for its light, elegant flowering habit. It produces clusters of small star shaped flowers held above slender stems, creating a soft floating effect that works brilliantly between spring bulbs and early summer perennials. This makes it a useful product for customers who want a longer seasonal sequence without heavy maintenance.
The flower heads add a gentle lift in the border and are particularly effective when planted in drifts or repeated along edges where the stems can weave through lower plants. Triteleia also suits gravel gardens and meadow style planting where finer textures are preferred. It pairs well with alliums, muscari, nepeta, hardy geraniums, low grasses and other plants that benefit from a lighter vertical accent. It can also be cut for small arrangements, adding a delicate, natural look.
Plant the corms in autumn for best flowering, in full sun to light shade and free draining soil. In heavier Irish soils, improve drainage with grit or plant into raised beds. Once established, it is low input. Water during prolonged dry spells, and after flowering allow foliage to fade naturally to feed the corms for the following year. Over time, clumps can expand, improving the display season after season.
