Plant bulbs in spring or autumn where possible, in a sunny or lightly shaded position with shelter from strong wind. Soil should be fertile and free draining, so advise adding compost and ensuring water does not sit around the bulb. Plant with the bulb at a sensible depth and water in, then keep evenly moist during growth.

Lilies benefit from a mulch to protect roots and steady moisture. In pots, use a free draining compost and avoid letting containers dry out fully.
