Description
The flowers of the Iris germanica ‘Red Zinger’ have ruffly rich burgundy petals and falls, darker throats and a golden-orange beards. The lower petals are the so-called ‘beard’. That is why these Irises are also called ‘Bearded Iris’. The sword-shaped, grey-green leaves die off at the end of summer, but leaves appear in the fall. Iris germanica Red Zinger is a hardy perennial, blooming from May to June and grows well in the garden, pots, and can be used in indoor flower arrangements. The plant has thick rhizomes that should be planted shallowly and almost horizontally as soon as possible after receipt. Planting distance is approximately 25-30 cm. Loosen the soil well. Improve heavy garden soil by mixing in sharp sand. Make a mound in the planting hole. Place the thick rhizomes of the bearded Irises about 1 cm below ground level on the knoll.
