Description
Lilium Hulk is a real novelty piece — a lily that changes colour as it develops, beginning as lush lime-green buds and chartreuse petals, then evolving gradually into rich tangerine and finally a bold bright orange as the bloom matures. Many flowers display a pom-pom-like, doubled bloom structure, giving a full, dramatic look unlike standard lilies. The bi-colour transition effect is the selling point — plant Hulk once, and every week the border looks different. This chameleon lily commands attention in modern borders, collector gardens, contemporary landscapes, hotel planting schemes, show displays and cut-flower patches where something visually new is required. Blooms form in mid-summer, carrying light fragrance and upright, sturdy stems ideal for arrangements — particularly eye-catching in bouquets where green and orange tones sit together naturally as the flowers age. While pom-pom and double forms reduce nectar exposure, freshly opened blooms still draw hoverflies and night insects, especially when supported with pollinator plants such as Allium and open-centred dahlias. Plant in full sun or light shade, fertile but drained soil, and mulch annually for vigour. Thrives well in Irish gardens with shelter from strong wind. A strong choice for design-led planting, large mixed borders, stand-out feature groups, containers and novelty sales, prized for its evolving colour show and florist value.
