Description
Crocus sieberi Firefly is a compact and vigorous species crocus producing delicate lilac-mauve petals with soft yellowish-white centres. Flowering from February into early March, it’s particularly well suited to rockeries, troughs, alpine borders, or lawns where an early flush of colour is needed without overpowering the setting.
In Irish gardens, it excels in free-draining locations and thrives even in coastal or upland areas when planted with good sunlight. Firefly is excellent for early pollinators and naturalises readily in low-maintenance schemes. It blends especially well with pale snowdrops, Scilla bifolia, and the blue hues of Iris reticulata. Its compact size also makes it ideal for urban pots or raised beds where space and colour are at a premium.
