Description
Tulip Clearwater is a late-season Darwin Hybrid tulip of commanding stature, with broad, pristine white petals washed faintly lemon at the base. Topping out at 55–65 cm, it flowers in late April to early May and is widely used for structural planting, formal white-themed schemes, and public-facing high-visibility displays.
It performs reliably in Irish conditions — thriving in full sun and nutrient-rich, free-draining soil. and returning well when planted deep and undisturbed. To prevent rot in wetter Irish gardens, especially in western regions, plant deeply (15–18 cm) and amend with grit, sand, or compost to improve porosity. It’s highly suitable for estate borders, public gardens, civic beds, business campuses, and large parkland displays where longevity and reliability are key.
Clearwater is ideal as a visual pause in strong colour schemes or as a central element in minimalist white plantings. Combine with Tulip Ballerina, Paul Scherer, or Queen of Night for bold contrast. For late-spring continuity, pair with Allium Mount Everest, Camassia alba, or Narcissus Actaea.
It holds up well in floral arrangements and is widely used by florists. While not fragrant or rich in nectar, Clearwater’s open blooms may offer late-season landing platforms for hoverflies and beetles, especially in urban parkland.
