Description
Tulip Queensland is a spectacular Fringed Double Late tulip, combining densely layered, peony-like blooms with finely fringed petal edges. Its colouring is a rich, rose-pink to strawberry-red, softened with silvery highlights and delicate fringing that sparkles in sunlight. Flowering later in the season (May), it delivers luxury and texture at a time when other tulips are at their best.
Compact at 30–40 cm tall, Queensland is excellent for containers, low borders, and feature plantings, where its flamboyant blooms can be admired up close. Despite its lush appearance, it is hardy and weather-resistant, standing firm in Ireland’s damp springs. Though double tulips offer limited pollinator access, planting it alongside species tulips, muscari, or early narcissi can enhance biodiversity within a scheme.
For design, Queensland is a showstopper. Its rose-like form makes it ideal for romantic or formal gardens, where it adds drama and sophistication. It pairs superbly with whites such as Exotic Emperor or Maureen, or with pale pinks for soft, harmonious displays. As a cut flower, it is highly prized for its texture, longevity, and luxurious look, making it a favourite for spring arrangements.
