Description

The flowers of the Iris sibirica ‘Concord Crush’ are a nice double blue-purple boasting a long bloom time May into June and sometime longer. These flowers can grow up to 70cm and are great in borders, gardens or as cut flowers. Iris sibirica is a hardy perennial and grows well in the garden. The plant has thick rhizomes. These thick roots should be planted shallowly and almost horizontally as soon as possible after receipt. First loosen the soil well. Improve heavy garden soil by mixing in sharp sand. Make a mound in the planting hole. Place the thick rhizomes of the Irises about 1 cm below ground level on the mound. Fill the planting hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. The planting distance is approx. 25-30 cm. These Irises grow and flower well in full sun or partial shade in wet to damp soil. The sword-shaped, grey-green leaves die off at the end of summer, but leaves appear in the fall. In winter, cover the plants with a layer of fallen leaves or some branches. Cut off all the leaves in the spring. Soon shoots will appear above the ground.
