Iris reticulata Frozen Planet

Iris reticulata Frozen Planet

Icy-white dwarf iris with pale blue veins. Striking in white gardens and early bulb groupings. Great for pots or alpine beds.

Description

A standout among reticulata irises, Frozen Planet features crisp icy-white petals with faint blue and violet veining, accented by a glowing yellow blotch on the falls. Its cool palette lends itself perfectly to contemporary schemes, white gardens, and minimalist gravel installations. At 10–15 cm tall, it’s perfect for pots, raised alpine beds, and foreground edging.

Frozen Planet is one of the best cultivars for pairing with darker-flowered varieties like J.S. Dijt or Iris Harmony to create tonal contrast. Hardy and early, it thrives in Irish gardens provided drainage is sharp. Add horticultural grit to heavy soils. Like other reticulata irises, it goes dormant early, allowing companion perennials to fill the space.

Plant with Scilla mischtschenkoana or Crocus chrysanthus Cream Beauty to soften transitions. Ideal for wildlife-friendly schemes seeking early nectar sources, though limited in its pollinator appeal.
