Scilla litardierei

Scilla litardierei

Loose lilac-blue spires on wiry stems. Later-flowering and moisture-tolerant. Ideal for naturalistic meadows and damp grassland schemes.

Description

Scilla litardierei is a more airy and later flowering scilla that brings a meadow like quality to spring and early summer planting. Its slender stems carry loose clusters of clear blue flowers, making it very effective in naturalistic borders, meadow style schemes and softer public landscapes where movement and texture are important. It is especially suited to horticulturists and landscape designers who want to extend the scilla season beyond the earliest spring types and create a more relaxed ornamental effect. In Irish conditions it performs well in open sunny sites with reasonable moisture through spring, and it is particularly effective when planted in drifts large enough to create a shimmering blue layer through grasses and lower perennials.
