Description
Eryngium alpinum(Alpine Sea Holly) is an unusual flower with heart shaped, glossy green basal leaves and large cone-like purple flowers and vivid blue bracts and stems. These thistle-like flowers thrive in full sun in fairly dry to well-drained soil that is poor to moderately fertile. Because of its soil choice, it is great for coastal gardens, as well as cottage, grave and wildlife gardens, flower beds and borders and as an unusual addition to cut or dried flowers. If the growth area is abnormally wet during the winter months, you will need to lift and protect.
